Meme’s official theater tour begins with the city it was made in!
“Meme masquerades as a common relationship drama, when in fact it presents a fascinating existential commentary that is perfectly tied up in a full circle approach”
-Tasha Danzig, Spoiler Free Movie Sleuth
Meme is the first feature film directed by Sean Mannion. The film won best feature at the 2018 Art of Brooklyn Film Festival.
Synopsis: Jennifer, an independent designer disappointed in her stalled relationship and career, discovers a surreal mashup videotape, labeled “Meme,” among a friend’s VHS collection. She goes in search of Meme’s creator, tracking down people who appear on the tape to gain greater insight into what it is and why it exists. As she pursues the creator of the tape she takes greater control of other aspects of her life including her relationship, difficult clients, and a drinking problem that increasingly interferes with her life.
Director Sean Mannion & lead actor Sarah Schoofs will be in attendance to meet the audience and discuss the film following the screening.
Prior to the feature we will present It’s Normal, a new short, political, horror film co-written by Sean Mannion and directed by award-winning filmmaker Nicole Solomon.
In It’s Normal a young woman checks in on a friend from her grief support group and learns that her changing world may be even scarier than it appears on the surface.

“AYLA isn’t a film for everyone, it’s twisted, dark and intense. It’s also a powerful one that will provoke thought as well as shock and possibly offend. It’s available now on VOD, cable on demand, etc. and I suggest you see it.”
“A combination of psychological disturbance and occasional squirmy body horror, AYLA is above all a portrait of grief so intense that it apparently manifests the object of that sadness.”
“Elias Ganster’s AYLA is a mesmerising assault on emotions that delves into madness in a way only matched by the great Lynch himself. UNDER THE SKIN meets MULHOLLAND DRIVE in a performance driven horror that battles demons of literal and metaphorical being.”
“Every piano note, every drawn out synthesizer note, is the constant, otherworldly score inside Eltons head. Every tortured and longing minute is expertly given sound. Life has been toying with Elton and he’s had enough. Ayla is a film full of an edgy, dangerous sadness. It’s a tough film to sit through because of that, but it won’t leave your mind anytime soon. Even with its more awkward, incestuous moments, the film haunted me like Ayla’s death haunted her brother.”
“Ayla is a dark, sometimes disturbing meditation on grief and loss. Dread and gloom permeate the film as Elias focuses on psychological horror rather than visceral shocks, and on presenting a mood piece rather than a traditional narrative.”
BEST ACTRESS: Tristan Risk
BEST DIRECTOR: Elias
BEST FEMALE PERFORMANCE: Dee Wallace

Three castaways. Two robots. And one derelict spaceship. All that’s left of their world.
But, when a mysterious android named Delta crash-lands on their devastated exoplanet, she brings hope to this band of survivors that can repair their ship, and find their way home.
However, that hope is soon dashed with the arrival of four bounty hunters on a mission that’s more personal than business.
Secrets long buried in the desert hold the key to who is a survivor and who is the destroyer.

Behind the scenes flashback of my experience working with writer/director Elias and the cast and crew on “Gut”!
Screen Anarchy is happy to premiere the first teaser for Ayla, the new film from writer/director Elias Ganster (Gut).
It is an interesting teaser, with hints of some body horror going on in there along with glimpses of the always fascinating Tristan Risk. Out of curiousity I looked up the meaning of her character’s name Ayla. It is Hebrew and Turkish in origin and could either mean oak tree, halo or moonlight. I cannot say if any of that ends up being intentional on Ganster’s part but nature does appear to weigh in thematically here, as it also does in the luring key art.
The film stars Tristan Risk (American Mary) as Ayla and Nicholas Wilder (Gut) as Elton. They are joined by Dee Wallace (E.T., The Howling), Sarah Schoofs (Phobia), D’Angelo Midili (The Invoking), with appearances by Bill Oberst Jr. (Resolution) and Andrew Sensenig (We Are Still Here).
– Andrew Mack
As a proud supporter of Ayla, the sophomore feature film from Gut director Elias, I’ve been following the production every step of the way. The first trailer for the psychological body horror featuring Nicholas Wilder, Sarah Schoofs, and the incomparable Tristan Risk (American Mary) just arrived and we’re pleased to share it with you now. Ayla also includes performances by indie horror heavyweight Bill Oberst Jr. and bona fide icon Dee Wallace.
– Joshua Millican
She’s riveting as Alex who is the relatable figure of this suspenseful, strange film as her paramour Alex tries to resurrect his late four-year old sister and who or what returns in a familiar form of a young woman is terrifying.
Sarah is notable for tapping into the evocative, dark recesses of the horror genre having been eye-catching in the bloody, body horror of “Gut” as well as the film “Phobia” where she returns from the grave as a spectre.
Judging by the trailer, the decision to bring his sister back to life is going to cause Elton (who is played by Nicholas Wilder) a lot of torment. The teaser doesn’t give away much beyond that, but it establishes a very troubling atmosphere and offers glimpses of some interesting images.
Wilder, Risk (who plays Ayla herself), and Oberst Jr. are joined in the cast by Dee Wallace, Miles Joris-Peyrafitte, Andrew Sensenig, Jennifer Lynn Warren, D’Angelo Midili, and Sarah Schoofs.
– Cody Hamman

The Theatre of Terror combines elements from classic Sci-Fi and Horror television into a brand new, terrifyingly surreal experience, shown from the perspective of four unsuspecting moviegoers. Join us, as we take you into the lives of a deeply shattered soul, a delusional book lover, an unscrupulous hillbilly, and a gruesomely dysfunctional family, each with their own deep, dark desires.
The Bookworm follows a young wealthy book connoisseur who purchases a library of rare texts at an auction. It’s a perfect escape for this introvert, but there is more to this collection than just old books.

ANOTHER GREAT REVIEW FROM THE FOLKS AT NERDLY:
“Writer/director Elias has crafted an ambiguous tale which is filled with complexity and subtext; and thanks to the lack of definitive answers within the narrative you’ll be thinking about the film way after it is over. A fresh, thought-provoking take on a well-worn horror trope Gut is essential viewing for horror fans.”
– Phil Wheat
“Gut makes IMDb’s Top 5000 again, thank you, piracy!” -Elias (writer/director)
AND FINALLY… To show that I am making my folks proud with my naked torso on the internet…

If Meme were an 80s movie released on VHS, I’d like to think the box would look something like this. As it stands now if you back us on Kickstarter, one of our exciting rewards is a VHS copy of the movie!!!
“I met Sarah for the first time while seeking someone for the role of Jennifer in an earlier iteration of the screenplay. At that point Jennifer actually wasn’t the main character but I was looking for a strong actress to help realize her on screen. We hit it off immediately and I chose her for the role on the spot. As progress on the script continued it became increasingly clear that the biggest problem with the script was that the main character (who later became Tommy in the film) wasn’t particularly compelling as the protagonist. Meanwhile, Jennifer grew in each revision into a more and more relatable and compelling character. And so, with Sarah already signed on to play Jennifer, and with every confidence that Jennifer would carry the plot in a more compelling manner and that Sarah was the only person I wanted to play Jennifer, I changed the script giving Jennifer the main action.
That was one of the best decisions I’ve made as a writer. Jennifer fit in perfectly and the shift fixed other problems I was trying to resolved in the screenplay. It just worked. “

“Chaos Under Construction is our biggest project to date, giving over 30 artists the opportunity to collaborate over six months, and build work that they can be proud of and that you will enjoy. Writers, directors, and actors started working together in March to build five brand new plays (four one-acts and one full-length play). Visual artists are designing posters (that you can get your hands on). Lighting designers will complete theatrical visions. A couple stage managers will corral them all.”

FANGORIA SELECTS ‘GUT’ AS DISC OF THE MONTH!!!
We just wrapped up a day of casting yesterday for the original new feature film ‘MEME’ written and directed by Sean Mannion!! Tommy is now cast!! Updates coming SOON!
And finally, NAKED HOLIDAYS 2013 is officially cast! The first workshop to build this juggernaut of a show from scratch is FRIDAY!!! The cast is ridiculously talented and we will be performing at THE CUTTING ROOM this year!!!
And there is nothing GRIMM about this new GUT review… (click photo for full review)
“I found the overall point and purpose of this film to be both profound and, impactful. These films are always entertaining because, the people portrayed in them are us. It’s me, it’s you, it’s the guy in traffic beside you. It’s the nice guy you always buy the morning paper from on the corner. “
“One of the biggest pros that GUT has going for it is the acting; all three of the leads were spot-on in their performances. Schoofs as Lily was great in her attempts to keep her family together in the face of something she doesn’t even really know is going on, Wilder has a great range as Dan from nerdy movie guy to way-too-confident for his own good to completely lost, and Vail is completely believable during his descent brought on by the things he has seen.”

New episode of Off-Awful! Filming wrapped for ‘The Long Short’! Another fabulous ‘GUT’ review! Woo Hoo! (that rhymed..) :D
I am so excited to be back for another episode of Off-Awful! A brilliantly funny web series devoted to the trials and tribulations of actors following their dreams in the big apple..
Check out the pilot episode that I had the opportunity to be a part of below![youtube http://youtu.be/lgtMsqy1g-E]
A GREAT new perspective on ‘Gut‘ that even I had not really taken into consideration, only until after reading this insightful review..
“This is both social commentary and horror – the eroticism of death and the general desensitized populace that is modern Western society. The problem with horror films in 2013 is that they have a hard time competing with the real horrors that we see every day – gunmen opening fire on schools, whack jobs planting bombs at popular and prestigious events, planes full of gasoline being flown deliberately into buildings full of people, terrorists strapping bombs to their chest and setting them off on city buses. How is a vampire or a werewolf compete with that when there are monsters everywhere with human faces? Gut actually explores that a little bit and modestly at that. I found it to be disturbing and provocative and, if you’ll pardon the pun, a cut above most horror films that are out there.”

And lastly, I just stumbled across this photo recently, and I wanted to share with you the AH-MAZING folks of ‘Peepers‘.. I had such a blast working on this film and I will most certainly keep you posted on the status!! (currently in post) Any actor is lucky to have such a brilliant cast and crew!! 😀
